Funding supports many programs and initiatives provided by DSBN schools in areas of program enhancement grants, poverty and emergency relief and post-secondary educational support.

  • Outdoor Learning Classrooms Supported

    The Education Foundation of Niagara works effectively at matching school needs with corporate and community philanthropy.  Recently EFN was able to assist Glendale Public School, Central Public School and Prince of Wales North to secure needed funding for their outdoor learning classrooms.  The projects were launched in June and September curriculum plans are on their way!  Thanks to Niagara Community Foundation, the Teachers Credit Union and TD Friends of the Environment, to name a few.

    Canadian Tire Jumpstarts Recess at Ross School in Welland

    Ross Public School is able to run the program due to generous support from Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities.   The Program assists children aged 4-18 to participate in organized sports....

    BMO Rescues Recess at Thorold School

    According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, child obesity rates have tripled over the past three years. Canadian reports are finding that high blood pressure, cholesterol problems and many other physical ailments in our youth point to a sedentary lifestyle and poor eating habits. Children as young as 10 are now suffering from high blood pressure and some reports conclude that, in the past, where smoking has been the biggest killer in North America, obesity has now taken the lead...

    Niagara Community Foundation Helps Breakfast Program ar Queen Mary Public School

    At Queen Mary Public School in St. Catharines, Principal Kelly McDonnell says the breakfast program is so populated on a daily basis that they just can't keep up with the volume.  EFN assisted with a grant application to the Niagara Community Foundation and $458.00 was awarded to the school to support the purchase of a commercial toaster that will expedite the program, allowing for the growing student need...NCF Logo

    Grade 3 Students Learn How To Swim to Survive

     From now until the end of the school year grade three students from District School Board of Niagara schools will benefit from the Swim to Survive program that teaches children how to survive an unexpected fall into deep water...

    TD Friends / Ontario Power Generation fund Wildlife Club at Eastdale and Port Colborne Secondary Schools

    Young and Wild was created in conjunction with OPG and TD Friends of the Environment Foundation.  Tyson said the program will train secondary school students to present Ontario reptile educational outreach programs to area elementary schools using live snakes.

    Sobeys Ontario Supports DSBN Nutrition Programs
    A recent grant of $3,000 was awarded to the Education Foundation of Niagara to support public school breakfast programs in Niagara. Sobeys Ontario grants funds to support breakfast programs provincially and locally.

  • Prom Project Niagara - May 1 at Thorold S.S.

    Board-Wide DSBN Staff Reunion
    On Oct 1st, 2009 over 170 DSBN Retirees and Staff came to Henley Island to participate in the first ever Board-Wide DSBN Staff Reunion.

    Teachers Credit Union sponsors the Make Change for Children Campaign.
    Just when we thought the Teachers Credit Union was generous enough through sponsoring our EFN Gala and many communications pieces, they donate another $1000 to the Poverty and Emergency Relief Fund, demonstrating the care and concern for the students of Niagara and the teachers who serve them!

    Golf Tournament
    On July 17, Coldwell Banker Momentum Realty held its annual golf tournament. Held each year, proceeds are dedicated to a local charity for community support. Contact Peggy Rose said, "we are pleased to be able to help in this small way".
