Introduction to Information Technology in Business Grade 9- Open |

|
This course introduces students to the use of information technology in the business environment. Students will learn how to use information technology in a work environment, perform electronic research, communicate electronically, and use common business software. They will also explore possible future occupations in information technology. This course will prepare students for a world of business and communication that relies increasingly on electronic technology, an area also undergoing continuous change. Students will be able to transfer the skills and understanding acquired in this course to activities in other courses and outside of the classroom. They will establish a foundation for using information technology throughout secondary school, and will develop the ability to apply new technologies in their search for employment. A broad understanding of the effects of technology on business will also be developed. Through a variety of activities, students will have opportunities to develop interpersonal skills, to interact with people from the business community and organizations within the school, and to develop a personal portfolio of information technology skills and competencies. |

This course introduces students to the world of business. Students will develop an understanding of the functions of business, including accounting, marketing, information technology, human resources, and production, and of the importance of ethics and social responsibility. This course builds a foundation for further studies in business and helps students develop the business knowledge and skills they will need in their everyday lives. |

This course introduces students to computer science concepts. Students will learn about the stages in software design; the fundamental programming constructs of sequence, selection, and repetition; the functions of internal and external computer components; the relationship among networks, operating systems, and application software and their uses; and how programming languages evolve. |

This course helps students examine computer science concepts. Students outline stages in software development, define standard control and data structures, identify on- and off-line resources, explain the functions of basic computer components, and develop programming and problem-solving skills using operating systems and implementing defined practices. As well as identifying careers in computer science, students develop an understanding of the ethical use of computers and the impact of emergent technologies on society. |

This course introduces students to the fundamental principles and procedures of accounting with emphasis on accounting procedures used in service and merchandising businesses. Students will develop an understanding of the connections between financial analysis, control and decision making in the management of a business, as well as the effects of technology and globalization on accounting procedures and the role of the accountant. |

This course focuses on the development of leadership skills used in managing a successful business. Effective business communication skills, ethics, and social responsibility will be emphasized throughout the course.

This course emphasizes the study of accounting principles related to financial statements. Students will learn about ways in which information in these statements is used in making business decisions, and about the effects of using different methods of inventory valuation and adjusting and reversing entries on financial statements. Students will also study the various ways of financing a business and ways in which the strength of a corporation can be determined through the reading of its annual report. |

This course emphasizes the development of practical skills and knowledge to solve problems, make decisions, create personal meaning and present findings to the growing Sports and Entertainment Marketing industry. Students will develop skills in the areas of ethics, consumer research, advertising, public relations/publicity, event marketing, endorsement, sponsorship, product distribution and career opportunities in Sports and Entertainment Marketing. Students will apply the principles and skills derived from the study of Physical Education, Media Studies, Business Marketing and the Social Sciences. |
