Book Buddies
Mentoring younger readers is a strategy that Alexandra School uses to build “community” across its grade levels. This activity couples social interaction with literacy activities that are used in student partnerships. At Alexandra school, the partnership between Book Buddies continues throughout the entire school year, happening once each 10 day cycle. Typically each grade 3 student partners with a JK student, each grade 4 student partners with an SK student, each grade 5 student partners with a grade 1 student, and each grade 6 student partners with a grade 2 student. At the end of the year we celebrate this very successful literacy initiative with a special activity.
