Whole School Literacy and Numeracy Activities

During the fall term, the whole school started their day with a three minute math drill. In all classes, grades 1-8 students participated in math facts drill activities. The purpose was to improve student mastery of the basic math facts. Many students made great improvements in their knowledge of the basic math facts.

In January, we began emphasizing the reading star strategies for the whole school. Each week, the focus is on a specific star strategy. Our January schedule is listed below.

January 7th - 11th Make Connections Good readers connect what they already know to what they encounter in the texts.
(Text to text, text to self, text to world)
January 14th -18th Determine What’s Important

Good readers determine the difference between important information and details.
January 21 - 25th Infer Readers interpret information that is not explicitly stated in the text.
Schema+TextClues=Inference
