Message from the Principal

Hello,
This is my third year as a Dalewood Dragon, and I am proud to be this school’s Principal! I am impressed with how hard our students work right from the first day of school, and how dedicated our school staff is to providing an excellent learning environment for students to learn and grow.

Learning and gaining knowledge to prepare for life is critical. But school is more than just what is learned in the classroom. Dalewood offers a number of outstanding events to broaden our students’ learning experiences such as Camp Dalewood, the Remembrance Day Ceremony, the Christmas Concert, a visit by the authors and dramatic performances, our Spring Variety Show, the school-wide community clean-up, and participation in a variety of community based initiatives (i.e. Rankin Cancer Run). As I watch our students during these times, I am very impressed with our many very talented students who always put forth his/her best effort.

School clubs and our intramural program are an integral part of our school culture. Students are been able to participate in lunch-time sports right from the start to the end of school always being active, having fun, and building friendships. Other opportunities included Art Club, Chess Club, Teen Esteem, Go Girls, Mr. Theriault’s ping-pong crew, Orchestra, our Choir with over 200 students, Gym Pack, Drama Club, Library Club and many more. Our Robotics Club had an outstanding year winning both the DSBN Robotics Challenge and a silver medal at the provinical Skills Ontario Competition in 2008.

Our Dalewood athletes demonstrate tremendous performances year after year. Our Cross Country Team consists of more than 100 runners, are Volleyball, Badminton, Basketball, Rugby & Soccer teams are always very competitive, and the Track & Field Team has many athletes competing at the Dristict Championships each year. Most importantly our athletes always demonstrate respect for their opposition, show team spirit, and continually strive to do their best.

A vital part of any school is a healthy and strong Student Council, and without exception ours is Second to None. Every week our student leaders planned events, encouraged student spirit, and helped to raise student awareness on child poverty, helping the food bank, and promoting environmental consciousness to name a few. Definitely a job well done!

Our school’s motto is “Nulli Secundus - Second to None”. This motto aptly describes the spirit and commitment our Dragons invest in all we do. Dalewood is a school where the students and staff work together to excel academically, athletically, and artistically. At our essence is the belief in putting forth our best effort and to be proud of our accomplishments.

Mr. T. Wallace, B.Sc., M.Ed.
