Chess Club

The chess club at DeWitt Carter got off to a quick start after the Christmas holidays. On the average, about 40 students meet almost everyday at lunch to improve their skills. We even have three Grade 2 students joining us this year.

On February 16th the intermediate division sent a team to compete in the 7,8,9 Chess Tournament at Port Colborne High School. Cameron Hart tied for second in the Grade8 division while Stephen Toepp finished fourth in Grade 7. Other team members competing were: Jesse Volpatti, Tamara Little, Haley Morrison and Janna Wilson.

The chess club held its own tournament to see who will qualify for the regional championships to be held in Fort Erie at Rose Seaton Public School March 29th.

Both Stephen Toepp and Wesley Johnson qualified to play in the DSBN Tournament April 11 in St. Catharines.
