Governor Simcoe Athletic Association

  • Developing student leadership through involvement in the organization and management of school based athletic events

PURPOSE OF ASSOCIATON

  • To assist the physical education department staff in promoting and running athletic events, intramurals, tournaments, fundraisers, and other special events.
  • To create a council where individual student leadership skills will be developed. Athletic council members will be taking an active role in planning and implementing these activities in the school.
  • To provide an To give students who demonstrate leadership potential the opportunity to attend leadership camps, leadership conferences, Olympic seminars, intramural conferences, etc. in order to enrich their leadership skills.
  • Opportunity for students to “volunteer” within their school to enhance school life, knowing that they must make personal sacrifices in order for this to happen.

CANDIDATES
  • Students who demonstrate leadership potential in Physical Education classes and on school teams.
  • Students who maintain an average of 80-90%
  • Students who are interested and involved in athletics, but not necessarily as athletes
  • Students who have a talent that can assist the association (i.e. computers graphics, web-site design, art, public speaking, sales, etc.)

OFFICERS
  • President or Co-Presidents
  • Vice-President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Grade Representatives
  • All Association Officers will be selected from the collection of Grade Representatives.
  • President(s) are student who attend leadership camp over the summer.
What does Athletic Association Pay For?
  • Payment of minor officials (scorers and timers or field crew for league games)
  • Prizes for intramurals
  • Assistance for student leadership camp fees
  • Trophies, decorations, and extras for the Athletic Banquet
  • Donations to charity at Christmas, school weight room, and Athletic Bursary for graduating students.
Athletic Association Responsibilities

Athletic Association Responsibilities
  • Publicity for events:designing posters, invitations, set-up, etc.
  • Ticket sales: athletic buy-ins, special events
  • Working elementary school track meets
  • Announcing special games, timing, scoring
  • Crowd control in gym
  • Sales of physical education uniform
  • Concession sales
  • Fund raising for athletic department and certain charities
  • Running alumni events
  • Organization of the athletic Banquet: announcements, ticket sales, posters, decorating and set-up, M.C. event, clean-up
  • Athlete of the Week: create and run nomination and selection process
  • Introduction of motivational speakers
  • Officiating at special athletic events: staff-student volleyball, basketball, etc.
  • Being a positive role model in the school.
