Simcoe Drama has had another successful year! We started off this year with our entry into the Niagara District Sears Drama Festival: Tracks. Using a creative set design that involved scrims and silhouette work, our cast examined what it would be like if, when we died, we ended up in a subway station and we had to decide whether to get on the train or not. . . This production was well received at school and at the Festival, where Trisha-Lee Halamay, our stage manager received runner-up for the Joseph Veyda Stage Management Award, and Lee Stewart was given an Award of Excellence for his role as “High School Boy.” Congratulations to the cast and crew of this production for a wonderful show! In the spring we teamed up with Simcoe music to embark on our second show. The May 2009 production was entitled The Gift, and it took us into the realm of cancer and the effects that a cancer diagnosis has on a family. This performance was a benefit for the Rankin Cancer Run, and every dollar from our ticket sales was donated to the Rankin Cancer Run - a total of $1515.00. Once again, this performance was well received by the school and our community, and we are grateful for the support we were given during this challenging production. What about next year? Well, we are going to continue with the tradition of excellence in the Performing Arts by producing our second musical, entering a play into the Sears Drama Festival, joining “The Cappies” - a theatre critic and awards program, going on theatre field trips, writing and performing a play in honour of Remembrance Day and so much more!
