A MESSAGE TO PARENTS OF PLAYERS
As coaches, our first concern is for the safety of our players on the field in practice and games. To this end, we expect to have an athlete who is prepared physically and mentally for the rigours of the very demanding game that is football.

We realize that young men have many interests outside of football, such as jobs and other sports. As coaches, we also have outside interests; however, we have made a commitment to our players to be available 5 evenings per week for the entire football season. From our players we also expect a comparable level of commitment. Players must be courteous and inform the coaching staff of reasons for missing practice times. Be aware that we are concerned with the safety of our athletes and that missing large amounts of practice time will give us no alternative but to limit that player's game time (1 missed practice will equal one quarter missed of next game). As with any situation, we are flexible but at no time will any coach allow an unfit player (mentally or physically) to endanger themselves.

"WE ARE WHAT WE REPEATEDLY DO. EXCELLENCE, THEN IS NOT AN ACT, BUT A HABIT." - ARISTOTLE

EXPECTATIONS FOR PLAYERS

  • RESPECT YOURSELF, YOUR SCHOOL and OTHERS! It is essential that you conduct yourself like a gentleman at all times in a manner that will reflect positively upon you, your teammates, the school and the football program.

  • TO ATTEND CLASSES! All team members are required to attend all classes unless special permission is given by parents or faculty. Absenteeism from class by team members will not be tolerated. If you are caught skipping classes you will forfeit your right to play Redcoat Football. Be on time and sit near the front of the class. Try not to sit with other players in class. Football players may be intimidating to other students and even more so in a group

  • YOU ARE A STUDENT FIRST, ATHLETE SECOND! Playing Redcoat football is a privilege, not a right. Every player is expected to perform their best in all their classes. Students must maintain a passing grade in all of their subjects in order to continue playing for Simcoe Football. Your playing privileges will be suspended until your marks are above 55%. All players have an MISP (Study Hall during the day) period to do homework and assignments. There is no excuse for missing assignments.

  • The coaching staff wants every player at every practice every night. If you miss one practice you will miss one quarter of the next game. Having said this, we are also aware of the realities of your lives. In the event that you cannot make a practice, the coaching staff has a right to know at least one full day in advance. Work schedules are known at least this far in advance, so it is unfair to the coaches and players to announce your absence without at least one day's notice. The coaches need time to prepare a practice knowing what personnel is available.

  • Practice begins at 2:45 and will be completed by 5:00. In 20 minutes, you can get to the team room, dress and tape and be on the field.

  • Arrange work schedules around practice where you can. If you are going to miss two full practices per week due to work, then you may not be able to give yourself the commitment needed to ensure your safety and success as a football player. If you are injured, the coaches will decide to what degree you will participate in practice or games...not the player. Even if you can't physically participate, the team will respect your initiative in coming out to support them.

  • To practice with intensity, realizing that we play how we practice.

  • To show RESPECT for my coaches and fellow players on the field and in the team room.

  • To use self-control on the field; treating officials, opposing coaches and players with respect.

  • From time to time team members may be asked to speak to the media. All team members are asked not to speak disparagingly about teammates or opponents.

  • Players are not permitted to borrow items from teammates' hangers/lockers without permission. Players found doing this are subject to disciplinary action. No exceptions. Players are not permitted to take team gear home for any reason, without permission from a coach (uniforms excepted).

  • Players are responsible for lost or damaged equipment. Players will be billed for current replacement costs.

  • Use of profanity on the football field and in the team room is prohibited and subject to disciplinary action.

  • Football Players are expected to be leaders among the student population and as such more is expected from them. All players should strive to maintain a positive image with the general student population. The coaches would like the football team to be a great source of pride for the school community.
