Walk Away From AIDS is an AIDS walk-a-thon being held on Friday, May 25, 2007. The raindate is Monday, May 28, 2007. Proceeds go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation, a foundation that funds community-based projects in Africa. The Stephen Lewis Foundation helps to ease the pain of AIDS-affected women, children, grandmothers, and other groups of people living with HIV and AIDS who have openly declared their status. Walk Away From AIDS will consist of a walk-a-thon, a BBQ lunch, a DJ, live bands, games, and prizes. Prizes will be awarded to the top fundraisers and to the class that raises the most money (per capita). Students can earn community service hours by raising money. There will be many other events leading up to the walk-a-thon during the week preceeding the event, including a play. Friday, May 25, 2007 The walk-a-thon will begin the back of the school. There will be a DJ. After the walk-a-thon, there will be free BBQ lunch, live bands, and games! Prizes will be given out. It will start after first period, and carry on for the rest of the day.
Make cheques payable to Governor Simcoe Secondary School. Income tax receipts will be issued for individual donations of $10 or more. Please print legibly. You can bring in your collected pledge money in the mornings, to the desk set up in the front foyer. You can earn 1 community service hour for every $10 raised, up to a maximum of 10 hours. Be sure to wear Simcoe spirit wear on the day of the walk, to show the community what we are doing. We are very appreciative of the sponsors we have for this event. Be sure to give them a visit! Students interested in participating can pick up a package from their homeroom teachers. You must raise a minimum of $15 to participate, and all pledge forms must be returned whether or not you are participating. You must return the same sheet you originally got, and each sheet is numbered at the bottom. Any pledge sheets that aren't returned will cost $15.
