Library          

The collection and facilities of the library are intended for the use of the students and staff at Niagara District.   The books and other materials have been selected with care to provide necessary resources for curriculum requirements, class assignments as well as for recreational reading.  Students are encouraged to use the many resources available to them.

Student Conduct

The library rules follow the school code of behaviour.  Be courteous and considerate to everyone in the library.  The library is a quiet area where you may read, research, study, listen to audio visual resources and access the available computer resources.  DSBN Netiquette regulations are enforced.

Instructional Program

During school hours, the library is often reserved by teachers who have planned research assignments with the assistance of the library technician. Individuals and small groups of students may be sent to the library for independent or group research.  Students with a spare  may also use the library.  Any student using a computer, who is not with a scheduled class must sign in.

Hours and Services

The library is open for students use from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Services available:

  • Pentium III computers for Word Processing, Desktop publishing and Internet Research
  • Online Public Access Catalogue(OPAC)-search for resources available in the library
  • Fiction and Non-Fiction material can be borrowed for a maximum of 20 days.
  • Reference materials have a loan period of one day and must be returned the following morning
  • eLibrary-quality electronic resources available at school and home
  • Learning Gateway Links
  • Access to DSBN Media Services resources
  • Photocopying and printing
  • Toronto Star, The St. Catharines Standard and The Niagara Advance are available
  • VCR/DVD for viewing educational material
  • various board games available for students who have a spare
  • Instructions and help are available to all students
