Teacher: Mr. Bell Room 211 Description:This course provides students with an opportunity to travel the world from the comfort of the classroom. It is well acknowledged that students will spend significant time and money traveling during their life. This course helps students to become wise travelers who make good choices and get the most for their travel dollar Students taking this course will be looking to explore the world of international travel. The course samples common destinations that are frequent choices of travelers. It also explores destinations, which are farther afield. As the course progresses, more exotic destinations are examined.Students will have the opportunity to work on a major travel itinerary for their future use. This will involve research of the destination along with and exploration of those site often missed by less educated travelers. |

The course samples a wide variety of topics including the structural processes of the earth, climatic process and natural disasters. Students will have the opportunity to work using the GIS to explore solutions to physical geography problems. |

Through the analysis of geographic problems students gain an appreciation of the complexities of many world issues that are in the news every day. There is a strong emphasis on the role that geography plays in these issues. This course encourages high level thinking skills which are necessary for business, government and a range of other career destinations. udents taking this course will be looking to develop superior geographic and digital information management skills with the focus on the application of geographic solutions to world problems. The World Issues course focuses on current problems that have their roots deep in society. Students will also be engaged in information management as it relates to preparation for their post-secondary career plans. Students will also use the GIS and other geotechnology software to help investigate these issues. By the end of the course, students will have gained significant skill with the GIS program and its associated applications. |
