Homework Helps!

Many of the Grade 1's have been eagerly asking about homework this year! As well, some parents are asking what kinds of things they can practice with their children at home. Our "At-Home Reading Program" is always something you can do with your child and I thank all of you who are spending the time reading and discussing books with your children.

This year, to try to give the students and parents some direction, I am implementing a monthly Homework Calendar. This is an attempt to provide meaningful and consistent learning experiences outside of the classroom.

Each month, the Homework Calendar and a notebook will be distributed to the students. They will stay at home until the last day of the month when the work the students have completed can be brought in for me to look at and reward with a sticker. For students who are easily answering the questions, try to challenge them with variations of the concept presented or offer them challenges to come up with different answers. Please try to fit more than one question on a page and use the space in the notebook as effectively as you can!

Thank you for your support with our homework program and I hope that you and your child enjoy these fun at-home learning experiences together!
