RULES OF WRESTLING
To put it simply the rules of wrestling have been changed to make it more spectacular, easier to understand and create more action for the media and the viewing public. As FILA put it from the current rules very little has changed. There will be no ordering of Parterre (all wrestling will begin in the centre of the mat in the standing position except for if in the parterre position the bottom wrestler does an illegal technique in order to stop their opponent from scoring in which case they will be penalised by 2 points and placed in parterre), stepping out of bounds will be penalised by 1 point, stopping of a match without bleeding will be penalised by 1 point, slight change to the clinch rule and the major change is the duration and number of the periods and each period starting at 0-0.

Time of Match and Scoring
The winner of a bout will be the wrestler who wins 2 out 3 periods. Each period will start at 0-0 and last 2 minutes for Juniors and Seniors, and 1:30 minutes for Schoolage and Cadets, the rest between periods will be 30 seconds. The winner of a period will be decided in the following manner if the score is tied: - most 3pt, then most 2pt, then most 1pt techniques and if all is equal the least number of passivities. In the case where the score is 0-0 the winner will be decided by a clinch. A fall (pin) still wins the match no mater the score or the period.

Clinch
The clinch is not a reward or designed to make things equal, it is a penalty for not scoring any points during the period and therefore designed to have a clear outcome depending on who wins the coin toss. The Freestyle clinch will be different to the Greco clinch. The clinch will last a maximum of 30 seconds. As previously the clinch is a dynamic clinch so if the clinch is released the wrestler must score immediately or will be penalised by a point, however, if there is no score within the given 30 seconds and the clinch has not been broken the person who clinched will be penalised by 1 point.

Freestyle Clinch
The person who looses the toss has to put one of their legs in the centre of the centre circle. The winner of the toss then grabs the leg of their opponent around the knee, the grip can be any grip as long as it is in the region of the wrists, the winner of the toss can have their head either inside or outside and as far as the position the winner of the toss can be down on one knee, two knees and standing. Before the start of the clinch, the wrestler who has lost the toss must have one hand on their opponents shoulder and the other on their opponent’s hip, and the leg of the looser of the toss must be on the ground before the start of the whistle.

Greco Clinch
The Greco clinch will remain as before with the following changes, once the winner of the toss has clinched the referee will blow the whistle and the action will begin. The looser of the toss can either clinch or not, however, if he chooses not to clinch he cannot be passive and block, he must wrestle. As before if nothing happens within the given time period the person who clinched first will be penalised 1 point. This is so that the winner of the clinch is able to achieve a throw. Remember the clinch is a penalty for no score during the period. If during the clinch a wrestler throws his opponent to his back he will be given a chance to pin his opponent and win the match.

Superiority
To win a period by superiority one wrestler has to have a lead of 6 points, at which point the period will end. To win the match by superiority one must win two periods by superiority.

5 point and 3 point techniques
A period may be won by any wrestler no mater the score by doing one 5pt technique (if the throw lands their opponent on their back they will be given a chance for a fall). Likewise, a period may be won by any wrestler no mater the score by doing two 3 point techniques in that round.

Stepping out of bounds
In the standing position any wrestler who steps out of bounds (steps on to the protection area with any one foot) will be penalised by one point without passivity or caution. Cautions for fleeing the mat or fleeing the hold will still apply and will be penalised by either 1 or 2 points but no parterre will be ordered.

In parterre the legs do not count and the wrestler who leaves the wrestling area (head and shoulders in the protection area) will be penalised by 1 point and the match will be restarted in the standing position.

NB: the zone will still be applied and called.

Passivity & Cautions
Passivity will still be applied and called with no effect except in the case if the score is tied at the end of the period. No parterre will be ordered. Cautions remain as were previously except no ordering of parterre and 3 cautions throughout the match will mean disqualification.

Pairing
The wrestling for each division will take place in one day and will be run by direct elimination. Those who loose to either of the finalists will be put into a repechage and have a chance at a bronze medal. In the case where there are six or less wrestlers only one bronze will be awarded and in the case of there being less then six wrestlers the winner will be decided by round robin system.
