BURNING YOUR VIDEO TO DVD
NOTE: Mac #1-4 won't burn. Old Mac #5, 6, 7 and New Mac #8, 9, 10 will.
Old Macs (#1-7)
Mac #1-4 won't burn so if you worked on one of them you must do this first-- Final Save if you haven't > File Menu Export (Share) > Quicktime > Compress for > Full Quality (for DVD) > Save to Desktop > Attach External Hard Drive > Drag the quicktime file from the desktop to the external hard drive. If you saved a frame as a jpg to be used when you burn your DVD drag that file onto the external hard drive as well. Eject External Hard Drive (select its icon on the desktop > File Menu > Eject...) > Attach the external hard drive to a "New" Mac > Open iMovie > Drag your file onto iMovie timeline > Proceed to Step 3 in New Mac instructions below.
Click iDVD Button (on the right). Here you can add Chapter markers to your movie to create scenes, eg. if you have an Out-takes section.
Move the Playhead to the spot where you want a new scene to begin > click Add Chapter button. Repeat. Give the Chapters names. Save when done.
If you are working on Mac #5-7, proceed to Step 6 to burn your DVD.
When you're ready to send your project to iDVD be sure to Save your project in iMovie first, then click on the Create iDVD Project button to send your movie to iDVD.
After iDVD opens your movie appears in the iDVD window.
In iDVD click the Customize Button to reveal the Customize Pane, and be sure the Themes tab is selected. > On the Themes bar (top right) select "All" > Choose a theme (it adds an intro to your movie) and notice a preview of the theme appears in the iDVD window.
Click the Preview button to see how your DVD will look.
Insert a blank DVD into your Mac > click the Burn button > burning will take a while because iDVD needs to render (prepare) the movie before it burns it.
Put blank DVD into drive > Burn > The first DVD will take about 20 minutes to burn, then other copies are quicker.
New Macs (#8, 9, 10)
Saving a Clip as a Picture--You may want to grab a spot from your music video and capture is as a picture to use on your DVD cover and/or to be used when you are preparing to burn the DVD. To do so -- In iMovie, move the playhead to the spot where you want the picture > File Menu > Save Frame... Give it a name and save it to the Desktop so it's easy to find. It'll be a jpg file.
If you have an Out-takes section at the end you can make a Chapter title there. Drag the playhead to the spot where a new Chapter starts (start of out-takes) > Click on Chapters Button (under clips pane) > Give the Chapter a name, eg. Out-takes.
File Menu > Save Project.
Share Menu > iDVD > iDVD will launch.
On the Themes bar (top right) select "All" > pick a theme > Choose a theme (it adds an intro to your movie) and notice a preview of the theme appears in the iDVD window.
Put blank DVD into drive > Burn > The first DVD will take about 20 minutes to burn, then other copies are quicker.
