Using New Communication Methods
Communication is so much of your daily life that you may not realize just how important it is. In this activity, you will attempt to communicate in an alternative way. Just think your new method might become a widely used communication method in the future!
Guidelines
- Divide into groups.
- Normal communication methods cannot be used, including speaking and writing in a typical language.
- If a code is developed, it is permissible to give a code sheet to the other team.Materials and Equipment
- Use the materials that are available in the room.Procedure:
- As a team, compose a message that your team would like to send. Good examples could include information that we have just learned, or news of a current event.
- Think of various ways the message could be sent besides the normal methods. Select the most feasible method, taking into consideration the time allowed for the activity and available materials.
- Assemble all the necessary materials for sending the message.
- Transmit the message to the rest of the class.
- Determine how well the other team understood the message by asking for feedback. Ask the other team for their thoughts on ways the system could be improved if you were to communicate another message using this same system.
- Following the transmission test, develop a simple communication model to show how your new communication system works.Evaluation
