EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION FORM ASSIGNMENT

Students will obtain an Application Form that directly relates to his/her choice of career. The Application Form must be at least two pages in length. Students will complete the Application Form using the guidelines provided. Students will use the following website to ascertain the legal aspects of completing an Application Form: http://www.ohrc.on.ca/english/code/index.shtml

Students should use Employability Skills 2000 and Action Verbs when completing an application form.

Application Form Facts

If possible, take the Application Form home to complete. Always print neatly, in black ink, with no spelling or grammatical errors.

Ask for two copies so that you can complete one in a rough form.

Have a responsible person proof read your work. The appearance of your resume reflects an image of you. Your resume should reflect your best work.

The applicant must make sure that dates, names, and places listed on your resume reflect the information listed on the Application Form. Don’t ever lie on an Application Form. Always refer to your resume when completing an Application Form.

It is important that the applicant does not leave any parts blank, or questions unanswered. Don’t write "See attached on resume." Blank spaces give the appearance that you are sloppy and missed the question, or you did not understand the question. If you feel a question does not apply to you, or have some other reason for leaving it blank, state your reason.

Use all the space provided when answering questions. This is your opportunity to "sell yourself."

When listing duties, you may include the personal qualities you brought to these duties.

It is important to list all jobs even if they fo no relate to the position for which you are applying. If you have many jobs, going back several years, you might want to consider grouping the distant ones together.

When describing duties or responsibilities of previous employment or volunteer work the applicant must relate those duties to the to the job to which they are applying for.

When answering questions relating to why you are interested in applying for the job the applicant should indicate their commitment to the job. It is a good idea to reflect upon career goals, within the company, when answering this question.
