Participating Sir Winston Churchill students
must have achieved a minimum of 75% in the class they wish to assist in.
Participating students contractually agree to exhibit
confidentiality
with all information regarding subject teachers and SWC students, in the context of
their LPS experience. Students enrolled in the LPS course agree to be
positive and enthusiastic; regarding assigned tasks and, assignments associated
with successful completion of the Leadership and Peer Support Course.
Participating subject teachers agree to interview potential LPS students
and sign on the LPS student(s) that they believe will work well in the specific
course the LPS student wishes to assist in. Participating subject teachers agree
to provide structure through clearly assigned tasks and by discussing the
evaluation criteria associated with successful completion of the LPS
course.( The evaluation criteria- and interim and mid term and final evaluation
reports are provided by the LPS teacher) Participating subject teachers agree to
provide support in terms of instructing LPS students to deal successfully with
classroom management issues as well as to teach a lesson. Subject teachers agree
to provide safety in terms of assigning activities to the LPS students in which
the LPS student has enough information, training, and ability to succeed in.
Subject teachers will indicate to the vice principal when their LPS student can be
used as prefects for class coverage in their absence.

Ministry Description
The purpose of the Leadership and Peer Support (LPS) course is to develop student leadership and support potential, style, and skills so that students can apply these skill in the school and community as well as in their selected career. SWC students will develop skills in communication, interpersonal relations, coaching, leadership, teamwork, and conflict management, and apply them in roles such as tutoring, mentoring, and student council involvement. Students will also learn the value and complexity of social diversity, while acquiring an appreciation of the importance of their community and helping others throughout their lives.
