South Lincoln Prepares for Sears 2008

The drama department is putting on the original comedy, Mac-whaat? in February as our entry into the Sears Drama Festival.  We will be performing the show at the school on February 12 at 7 pm in the evening for parents, as well as on February 13 for South Lincoln students and local elementary schools.  The play is a comedy written by Ms. Short, Ms. Garrett, Anjene Balint and Derek Schoeneberg.

Miss Hathaway has to teach the entire play of Macbeth in one period!  How on earth will she do it?  How will her students react?  Hilarity ensues as she rushes through one of Shakespeare's most well known scripts.  A sure fire crowd pleaser.

....Grade 9's get into the Act

Ms. Short's Grade 9 Drama class presents on two children's plays in December.  On Tuesday December 17th, SLHS's drama department will present the children's comedies "Alison Wonderland" and "Idiots of the Caribbean".  Tickets are $5 at the door for adults, $3 for students/seniors.  A non-perishable donation to West Lincoln Community Care gets you a $1 off your ticket!  Come and see these two hilarious spoofs.  The show starts at 7pm.

Alison is lost in Wonderland.  She's an average tweenage girl in a very un-average world.  Watch as she has supper with the Mad Toupeer, the Cheshire Horse, C-Ball, the hip hop rabbit, and the Prime Minister of Wonderland herself!  Will Alison be able to escape the evil clutches of Brianna, the friend she left behind?  Come and see this funny twist on a classic!

How many silly pirates does it take to find a treasure?  "Idiots of the Caribbean" is a play about a forgetful king, his angry wife and their son, Whatchamacallit as they search out buried treasure.  But who will find it first?  Captain McNasty and her crew are also on the prowl!  And the island is guarded by the ghost of a rich divorcee!  Will they be able find the island?  Will they be able to solve the riddle?  Will they be able to see anything except for the glow from Johnny the Jester's terrible outfit?  Come and see this hilarious adaptation of a pirate's tale!

  Drama Programs at SLHS
ADA 1O1

The Grade 9 programme focuses on building basic drama skills - mime, movement and storytelling.  The big draw of the grade 9 class is the opportunity to perform for an audience in their own original production.  Previous productions have included Minor Niners, which explored the trials and tribulations of the first day of grade 9 and The Field Trip, an exploration of a field trip to a button factory gone wrong.

ADA 2O1

The grade 10 drama programme focuses on developing comedy and improvisational skills.  Units include mask, including mask making, improvisation, commedia dell'arte (a traditional masked Italian improv style) and scene study and/or production of Canadian plays.  Needless to say, there are a lot of laughs in the Grade 10 class as students try out new skills and find their funny bones.

ADA 3M1

Grade 11 drama is an exploration of many different styles of drama, including turn of the century realism (think Shaw and Chekhov) as well as delving deeply into acting technique.  Students get the opportunity to work with the technical aspects of theatre as well, such as lighting, sound, costume and set design.

ADA 4M1

Grade 12 is the crowning glory of the drama programme.  In this very student driven class, students work on Shakespearean monologues, Canadian scene studies and they get to act and/or direct in their own one act plays.  Students have an opportunity to learn about audition technique and how to write a professional resume.  The Grade 12 class allows for huge scope for imagination and creativity.
