Canadian and World Studies

The Canadian and World Studies department includes the following subjects:

  • history
  • geography
  • law
  • civics

Aims of the department:

  • to foster an appreciation of how past and present individuals and events have shaped our global and Canadian societies
  • provide students with opportunities to analyse local, national, and global issues, and relate this issues to their daily lives
  • teach problem solving skills
  • develop research and literacy skills in our students using traditions methods along with the latest technology
  • promote critical thinking skills
  • develop writing skills

Field Trips

This department has a long stranding tradition of offering field trips in order to enhance our students’ appreciation of the subject matter. Field trips include:

  • grade 9 geography: annual hike along the Bruce Trail
  • grade 10 history: exploration of the War of 1812 battle sites in Niagara Falls
  • grade 11 and 12 law: court house tour and trial viewing
  • grade 11 and 12 geography: tour of the Mammoth Caves in Kentucky
  • grade 11 and 12 history: Royal Ontario Museum
