Canadian and World Studies
The Canadian and World Studies department includes the following subjects:
- history
- geography
- law
- civics
Aims of the department:
- to foster an appreciation of how past and present individuals and events have shaped our global and Canadian societies
- provide students with opportunities to analyse local, national, and global issues, and relate this issues to their daily lives
- teach problem solving skills
- develop research and literacy skills in our students using traditions methods along with the latest technology
- promote critical thinking skills
- develop writing skills
Field Trips
This department has a long stranding tradition of offering field trips in order to enhance our students’ appreciation of the subject matter. Field trips include:
- grade 9 geography: annual hike along the Bruce Trail
- grade 10 history: exploration of the War of 1812 battle sites in Niagara Falls
- grade 11 and 12 law: court house tour and trial viewing
- grade 11 and 12 geography: tour of the Mammoth Caves in Kentucky
- grade 11 and 12 history: Royal Ontario Museum
