Welcome to Stamford Collegiate’s Physical & Health Education Department
The Ministry of Education now supports the inclusion of more than one physical and health education credit per school year. All physical and health education students are required to wear Stamford athletic clothing while using the gymnasium, fitness centre and aerobic/combative centre. Shirts and shorts may be purchased at registration (August) or during the school year from the phys ed department office. The cost is $15 a shirt and $15 for shorts.
The Fitness centre is open before and after school for those students who wish to purchase a membership, $20/semester. Stamford athletic attire must be worn when using this facility.
Every phys. ed course includes a fitness component every Thursday, affectionately named “The Sting”. It is a series of short runs and exercises designed to increase and measure each student’s personal fitness level. This weekly assessment is individual and the results are recorded only to see personal individual improvements. Students are not compared to standards but are encouraged to improve and enhance their own level of fitness.
