to Virgil School's web site.
Virgil Public School is a Junior
Kindergarten to Grade 8 school located in Virgil,
Ontario. Our enrolment is approximately 300
students with a staff of 20 teachers, 1 educational
assistant, 2 administrative staff and 3 support
staff. Two of these teachers are located at Niagara
District Secondary School. They teach Choices and
Changes and Design and Technology programs for the
grade 7 and 8 students of Virgil and four other
area schools.
Virgil Public School had its
beginnings in the 1800s. In 1872, on the
present site, a stone building was erected. In
1922, another room was added and the school yard
was enlarged to its present size. In 1939, a new
classroom, teacher's room, assembly hall, and
kitchen were built. Six rooms were added in 1947.
In 1967 a double kindergarten room was added. The
gymnasium, kitchen and front entranceway were
opened in April of 1983.
