Elementary School Cardboard Boat Races
The Challenge:
Teams of four students from grades 7 or 8 (from the same school) will design
and construct a boat and participate in both a speed and a weight challenge in a pool.
Students will be given the materials to construct the boat and 2 hours of building time. We strongly encourage all teams to design and test sample boats prior to the event as this will allow them an opportunity to work out any problems, they may encounter on the day of the event.
The boat should be solidly constructed and easy to race. The propulsion
must come from members of the team paddling down the race course. Teams will be judged on
boat design, quality of construction, teamwork/ organization, safety/cleanliness,
visual appeal, speed and weight capacity. Each speed and weight challenge will be timed
and recorded by our judges.
Teachers (advisors) are not to give any advice to their students on the day of the event.
Elegibility:
- Affiliated elementary schools may enter two (2) teams of four (4) students each.
- Please note registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis and waiting lists often occur.
- Teams must be made up of students from the same school and must be in grade 7 and/or grade 8.
Elementary Registration Process:
- Step #1 – Teachers reserve team space(s) online at https://register.skillsontario.com.
This must be done two (2) weeks prior to the event
- Step #2 – Teachers or students register team members online
This must be done one (1) week prior to the event
- Step #3 – Fax in individual team member signed consent forms to (519) 749-6322.
This must be done one (1) week prior to the event.

2007/2008 Secondary Level Regional Championship Results:
It started with Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School in the Toronto Regional Cardboard Boat Competition on Monday, October 29, when the Sir Winston team won the silver medal and a spot at the Provincial Finals held in Waterloo this coming February.
Then came Tuesday, when Eden High School showcased the talents of more of our DSBN Technology Students and dominated (once again) in the London Regional Boat Competition. Eden not only won the gold medal and Championship, but they also won the silver medal as well. Eden has won either the gold or silver or both since they started in this competition back in 2000! Eden will also represent DSBN in the Provincial Finals in Feburary.

2006/2007 Secondary Level Provincial Championship Results:
Congratulations to EDEN HIGH SCHOOL for ranking first and second at the 2006/2007 Provincial Cardboard Boat Races! This was the 2nd consecutive year that Eden has won this event!
