Orientation

Children who are registered in a kindergarten program at a DSBN school will be invited to attend a spring or summer open house before the start of the school year. This is an opportunity for parents and children to visit the school, meet staff, and learn about their school. You will receive an invitation from the school advising you of the dates and times and all of the details.

When is the orientation session for my child's school?

Since you have already registered your child, the school will be sending you an invitation with more information.

Why attend an orientation session?

These sessions provide valuable information about the specifics of your child's school such as bell times and tour of the school. You will meet the teacher and Principal and have specific school-based programs explained.

Do I bring my child with me to the orientation?

Absolutely! The orientation is about more than giving parents important information. It's also your child's opportunity to explore his/her new school, playground, and classroom. This will help to familiarize your child with the school environment so he/she is more comfortable arriving on the first day. Many schools also include an opportunity for children to explore a school bus and learn about bus safety.
