Oct. 24     Guelph Centennial Invitational Junior Boys Volleyball Tournament

Eden 1 travelled to Guelph to play some of the top teams from that region. Among the team’s represented were the quad A and triple A champions from last year….St. Mary’s has a student population of 2,400!! Pool play saw Eden  easily defeat St. Mary’s 25 -15 & 25-13.  As well as ODSS 25-5 and 25-12.  Centennial gave us the strongest fight 25-18 and 27-25.    Eden easily defeated Westside.  Eden won  25-7 & 25-9.

Semi finals saw us up against Bluevale who gave Eden  a bit of a run (sorry no score recorded).  We played Norwell in the Championship round and again won easily in two games.  Eden 1 showed great character as we carried on despite an injured  Greg Piggot having to sit out the playoff round.  Greg continues to prove himself as an effective all around player, anchoring both the offense and the defense.   Jason  Elzinga filled in the middle position doing an admirable job  – even hitting a step!!  Nathanial  gave an outstanding performance coming in to take over the vacant power position – he continues to hit and serve with confident authority!!

Mark Lee bounced a powerful quick hit off of a Norwell blocker’s face…….Brandon was effective on the right side and served well in the game against Centennial placing 3 consecutive serves to position 2 showing a  great ability to serve strategically.  Andrew continues to lead the team offensively in his capacity as setter.  He routinely sets the difficult balls that allows the hitters to look amazing.. …..Andrew served for most of the 25 points against Westside.   Mark Scholl served several crowd pleasing jump serves.

Reed was our MVP of the tournament – hitting and serving with great power.  Reed’s character on the floor is also a strength for the Eden team.  He is upbeat and positive regardless of the circumstances!!    Reed gives his all when he plays even sacrificing his lunch for the good of the team.
