Nov 10
St. Paul vs Eden
The Lady Flyers opened the season with a solid effort in
a 4-2 victory over Saint Paul. Goal scorers were Ashley Waugh,
Taylor Keracher, and Leigh Vanderveen with a pair.
Chipping
in with assists were Meredith Janzen, Lindsay Maclean, Stepanie
Wiens, and Leanne Lof.
Nov 16 Eden
vs Ridley
Despite missing 2 of our top defenders, the Lady Flyers
played tough against a super strong Ridley team but lost
7-0. Kelli Klassen saw a lot of rubber, and got a great workout,
stopping
too
many shots to count. Taylor Keracher had our best chance
of the day, getting absolutely robbed by the Ridley goalie.
Nov 19 Eden
at McDonald's Tournament
The Lady Flyers opened the Macdonalds tournament with a
3-0 shutout over Saint Paul. Leigh Vanderveen provided the
offence with a hat trick. Cudos to all 4 defenders and to
Kelli Klassen for recording the shutout.
Mer Janzen opened the scoring in the second game, and it
looked like it would hold up to be the winner, until Crossley
tied it up with 3 minutes left in the game. The Flyers were
not about to be denied a victory however, and applied tremendous
pressure in the final minutes, with Mer "Christmas" Janzen
scoring the winner on a mad scramble with 2 seconds remaining
on the clock, making the final score 2-1.
In our 3rd game of the day, the Flyers squeaked out a 2-1
victory over St Michael. The goal scorers were Mer Janzen,
and Leigh Vanderveen with a sweet move on a breakaway to
seal the deal. Kelli Klassen made several outrageous saves
to keep St Mike's at bay.
In the championship game vs EL Crossley, Eden got off to
a sloppy start, allowing an early goal to trail 1-0 early.
The Flyers bounced back in the 2nd period, with a pair of
goals coming from sniper Karen Dancy, and Captain Vanderveen
adding an insurance goal in the 3rd period. Congratulations
to all the Lady Flyers on repeating as MacDonald's tournament
champions!
