Olympic Fever Hits Port Weller

Last Friday in order to celebrate the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Games, Port Weller Staff and Students dressed in a sea of RED!!! We were also very lucky to have 2 torch bearers spend the morning at our school. Thanks to Mrs. Chapell, a Port Weller parent and former student for bringing her torch to school for the morning. Mrs. Chapell also brought along her sister who was a Port Weller graduate and torch bearer. The students had a great time showing off their Canadian PRIDE and posing for pictures!!! See some of the pictures taken on the programs/activities page. Thank you torch bearers for sharing your spirit with us!!!!

Kindergarten Registration

If you have anyone at home who is ready to start JK or SK in September join us on Thursday February 4 from 4-6pm to register your child. This is a great opportunity to see what our classrooms look like and give your child a first hand look of what school is all about!!!

Silent Auction and Trivia Night

A big thank you to all the families that support this event through donations, attending, and running the event. Thanks to all your efforts the School Advisor Council raised just under $5000.00. These funds support many things at the school such as skating, graduations, class trips, school events, breakfast club, snack program and many of the SMART BOARDS found in our school.

Make Change for Children

During the week of March 8-12 we will collecting change for the Education Foundation of Niagara. This is a organization that supports student in school through covering trip cost, supporting breakfast programs in school, providing funds for children in need plus many more ventures. Our school has received over $1300 from this organization in the past 2 years for these needs. Students are encouraged to bring in change to make donations in the their classrooms this week. Thanks in advance for your support.

Primary Home Reading Program Needs Volunteers!

Thanks to the few new volunteers who have responded to our needs. We still need more volunteers to keep this program running in full gear!!!!

This program has been up and running for 3 years now at Port Weller and since the start of this program students who have actively participated have noticed an increase in their reading scores. This year we have noticed a drop in volunteers coming to the school to read with students. If you can spare as little as 1 hour per week we need your help. It is only through volunteers that we can keep this program going. Volunteers can be grandparents, older siblings, aunts, uncles community members just about anyone how can spare some time! Please contact the office if you can help!
