MUSIC VIDEO PROJECT
The purpose of this project is to demonstrate your ability to plan, shoot, and edit your own music video by following the steps involved in pre-production, production, and post-production. This includes the development of detailed storyboards, applying techniques of camera composition, and using transitions effectively in the editing process.
The video will be evaluated on the completion of the pre-production package, the use of camera techniques and composition, content of video, and editing techniques.

In Groups of 4, you will complete the following steps:
PRE-PRODUCTION:
You will hand in a pre-production package for evaluation. The package must contain the following 6 items:
Record job allocations for your group.
Ø 1 person will take on the role of director.
Ø Camera operator
Ø Talent
Ø Wardrobe/props/continuity
Everyone can take turns operating the camera and more than one person can be the talent.
Select your song. Print a copy of the lyrics to be handed in for approval.
Ø Lyrics must be appropriate. (no swearing or questionable lyrics)
Brainstorm your ideas:
Ø Write your ideas down and include them in your package.
Treatment:
Ø Write a paragraph on what the content of your video will be. You may convey a social message in your video or use the video as a sales/promotional tool. Describe how you plan to show the intention of the music video. (for example, you can tell a story in your video to make a comment on friendship, love, the world, etc.)
Storyboard:
Ø Must include the following:
o An illustration for each shot
o The shot #
o The duration of the shot (in HH:MM:SS:FF format)
o The type of shot (CU, MS, XLS, etc.)
o The camera movement, if applicable (dolly, truck, etc.)
o The shot angle (high, low, etc.)
o A short description of the action taking place in the shot.
o The first few words of the lyrics written in the audio section.
List of props and wardrobe.
Ø From your storyboards, make a list of the props and the costumes you plan to use in your video. This will help you with maintaining continuity when you start shooting.
PRODUCTION:
Use 5-10 different types of camera composition techniques.
Use your storyboards as a guide so you are sure that you have all of the shots you need before you start editing.
Keep track of what props/wardrobe you need for each shot.
POST-PRODUCTION:
Import your song into iMovie.
Import you video footage into iMovie.
Select transitions wisely. You don’t want to kill your video with too many fancy transitions or special effects.
Use pacing effectively. Be aware of the beat of the music. Try to cut on the beat as much as possible (not necessarily on every beat)
Remember the length of each shot will affect the pacing of the video (is it a fast song or a slow song?)
